C.1800 Napoleonic Naval Fighting Dirk

Interesting c.1800 naval fighting dirk that has been made from a cut down officer’s spadroon-type sword – this was not uncommon at the time as sword that might have sustained damage to the hilt, possibly in combat and could still be re-purposed into a fighting weapon.  The hilt comprises a ribbed ebony grip and brass mounts.  One of the crossguard finials has been removed and then rounded – looks to be a contemporary alteration.  With a plain, fullered blade.  The blade length is 12.5 inches (18 inches overall).  Would have been a substantial and effective edged weapon in its time.
