Medal commemorating the bombardment of Mogador, 1844. Obverse: Bust of Admiral François Ferdinand d’Orleans, Prince de Joinville (1818-1900) in uniform. Legend: ‘FR . PH . L . M . FERD . D’ORLÉANS PRINCE DE JOINVILLE.’ Reverse: Inscription, in twelve lines, ‘LA FLOTTE FRANÇAISE ATTAQUE MOGADOR LE 15 AOUT 1844. ELLE ÉCRASE LA VILLE ET SES BATTERIES ET PREND POSSESSION DE L’ILE ET DU PORT. S . A . R . LE PRINCE DE JOINVILLE, COMMANDANT L’EXPÉDITION.’ (The French fleet attacked Mogador 15 August 1844, bombarded the town and its batteries and took possession of the island and the harbour.)  Very good condition – diameter is 2 inches.
