Napoleonic German Bavarian Infantryman’s Hanger Sword
Napoleonic Bavarian sword.
Rare example of a c.1810 Bavarian infantryman’s sword. With brass stirrup hilt and leather covered grip. The blade is engraved to both sides with the royal cypher of King Maximilian Joseph of Bavaria (reigned 1806-1825) – “MK” stands for Maximilian Koenig – “King”. This sword is typical of the type carried during the Napoleonic Wars when Bavaria fought for both Napoleon and the Allies at varying times. Comes with original leather part scabbard. Blade length is 23 inches (28 inches overall).
