Scarce late-17th Century English stag-horn hilted hunting or naval officer’s sword.
A scarce late-17th Century English stag-horn hilted hunting or naval officer's sword. Of typical form and with brass decorated shell guard. German, Solingen made, slightly curved blade with deeply impressed, half moon armourer's marks to both sides. This style of sword was very much favoured by English naval officers of this period as its small size worked well in close combat on board a busy ship's deck. Blade length is 19.5 inches (25 inches overall).
