Rare French Model 1842 Sabre Bayonet – German-made American Civil War Import
American Civil War import Model 1842 Bayonet.
A rare example of a French design Model 1842 Sabre Bayonet made by A & E Holler of Germany (1854-1885) and imported in the US during the American Civil War to make up the shortfall of home bayonet production, particularly during the early part of the war. Maker stamped to the blade forte. Heavy piece with cast brass grips and wide, curving blade. Complete with steel scabbard – some staining, wear to the blade. Blade length is 22.5 inches (28 inches overall).
