US 1770’s American Revolutionary War Cavalry Officer’s Sword – Named
Original 1770’s US cavalry sword.
An original and very rare 1770’s US Cavalry Officer’s Sword – with typical slotted brass hilt – grooved and varnished wooden grip. The inside of the hilt is engraved as following: “LT F PIERCE N. YORK REG JAN YE 7th 1776” – am not certain if this is original to the sword but the style of lettering is consistent with the period and there is wear to the letters. Have not researched the officer. With a plain, fullered blade – in good condition. Swords from this period and particularly American blades are seldom found so this is an important piece. For similar examples please look at Swords and Blades of the American Revolution by George C Neumann. Blade length is 29.5 inches (35 inches overall).
