US Civil War Water Canteen.
A rarely encountered US Civil War Model 1858 Army water canteen complete with strap. Was typically a Union issue item but both sides were known to have carried it so cannot say for sure whether Union or Confederate. Has been pressed flat at some time - assume that the shell is either pewter or tin and so malleable. Retains original coarse cloth covering and cotton strap In named to a "R JONES" on the strap but do not know if it is period or later. Stopper and steel chain still present. Diameter of the canteen is 8.5 inches.
