A highly unusual African 19th/20th Century Sword with Massive Scabbard
This is a great piece and comprises a long hardwood grip, hand-forged blade and massive, carved wooden scabbard. Am not sure which African tribe or peoples carried this type of sword but the design of both sword and scabbard is highly unusual and probably indicative of an area. It also has a woven strap attached to the scabbard for carrying on the shoulder of the wearer allowing for easy access and withdrawal in times of combat.
Condition of the Sword
In good, overall condition and with wear to the blade – age crack to the scabbard.
Specifications of the Sword
Blade length is 16.5 inches (23 inches overall).
