Scottish Napoleonic Highland Infantry Officer’s Dirk

scottish-napoleonic-dirk-2

A Scottish Napoleonic Highland Infantry Officer’s Dirk that is a good example of the type of fighting dirk carried by Scottish officers in the Napoleonic Wars.  With a carved bogwood grip studded with brass pins and large rounded pommel – struck with armourer’s mark that is continued on the typical scalloped edge dirk blade.  In good overall condition – note the last images that show service wear where the bogwood has worn down against the uniform.  Both blade and hilt are solid with no movement.  Blade length is 10.5 inches (14.5 inches overall).

British Napoleonic Naval Officer’s Fighting Dirk

british-napoleonic-naval-dirk-2

An excellent and unique example of a British Napoleonic Naval Officer’s Fighting Dirk.  Looks like this is a bespoke naval dirk made specially for an officer in the Royal Navy.  This is indicated by the very unusual carved ivory decoration to the hilt that takes the form of an inter-twined belt or garter(?).  I would summise that this is related to either the officer’s family name or the ship that he served on – is very intriguing.  The gilt brass crossguard is formed from decorative acorns that are an indication of its British Royal Navy connection – acorns were a popular motif on swords and dirks of the period.  Blade is of triangular form and would have been a wickedly effective stabbing weapon – plain, fighting blade in good condition.  Blade length is 13 inches (18.5 inches).

Indian 19th Century Pesh Kabz Dagger#2 with British Museum(?) Tag

Important 19th Century Canadian Inuit Knife and Scabbard

inuit-19th-century-dagger-knife-3.JPG

An Important 19th Century Canadian Inuit Knife and Scabbard.  This is a large and substantial knife and probably the best example that I have come across in many years.  These antique Inuit knives are extremely scarce in the market and to find one like this and complete with its scabbard is virtually unheard of.  The knife comprises a large walrus ivory grip that is decorated in typical Inuit style of roundels and incised lines.

With original scabbard

Grip is secured by iron pins.  The blade is curved and double-edged.  Both blade and hilt are rock solid and with no movement whatsoever.  The knife comes with its original wood and leather(?) sealskin(?) covering – there is deeply carved decoration below the covering – see images.  A fantastic and rare piece.  Blade length is 8.5 inches (14 inches overall).

Massive Promotional Damascus Blade Bowie Knife

massive-bowie-knife-2

A truly Massive Promotional Damascus Blade Bowie Knife.  I can only guess that this enormous knife was produced for display purposes as it has very little practical use unless you are a giant!  Likely to have been produced in the 20th Century.  It is extremely heavy and consists of a large composite and nickel-plated hilt with a distinctive inset arrow to both sides of the handle.

Damascus pattern to the blade

The blade is very wide (over 3 inches at its widest point) and is decorated with an attractive Damascus pattern.  Would make a very impressive display piece for a collection of Bowie knives.  Blade length is 12.5 inches (19 inches overall).

Nepalese Bone-handled Kukri

kukri-bone-handled-3

A good example of a Nepalese Bone-handled Kukri from the early 20th Century.  With decorated and incised pommel and well carved bone handle.  The kukri is a Nepalese knife that exhibits an inwardly curved edge and is used as both a tool and a weapon.  It is regarded as a basic utility knife of the Nepalese people and is the primary edged weapon of the Nepalese Army, the Royal Gurkha Rifles and of all Gurkha regiments throughout the world.  There are many famous tales of Gurkha soldiers using the kukri as their primary weapon of choice when in close combat.  The blade is well tempered and the kukri comes complete with its original decorated leather scabbard.  The kukri is in good condition throughout commensurate with its age – some wear and minor repair to scabbard.  A nice and original addition to a collection of antique Gurkha kukris.  Blade length is 11 inches (14.5 inches overall).

18th Century Imperial Chinese Dagger Knife

antique-chinese-dagger-2

A rare and original 18th Century Imperial Chinese dagger knife with bronze hilt mounts and intricately carved wooden grip.  The dagger has a heavy weight blade with a wide, tapering blade.  Condition of the blade is very good for its great age with some commensurate wear to the blade.  Both blade and hilt are rock solid and with no movement – have never been apart.  Chinese daggers of this early period are quite scarce and especially of this unusual blade type.  The thickness of the blade probably indicates that it had armour piercing capabilities.  Blade length is 9.5 inches (12.5 inches overall).
