American 19th Century Washington Society Dress Sword

An unusual American 19th Century Washington Society Dress Sword

This is a brass-hilted sword carried by members of the Washington Patriotic Order Sons Of America Society – a society that was founded in 1847 and had the purpose of teaching patriotism and duty to the American flag.  This sword dates to around 1870’s- 1880’s and comprises a pommel bust of George Washington and shell guard of American eagle and flags.  The blade is decorated with foliage, American eagle and initials.  Wooden grip with brass twistwire.  Maker marked to CC Fuller of Worcester, Massachuetts.  Complete with steel and brass mounted scabbard.  A very decorative piece from the 19th Century.

Condition of the Sword

In good overall condition with wear to the grip and blade.

Blade length is 28.5 inches (35 inches overall).
