British 19th Century Newcastle Artillery Volunteers Officer’s Sword

newcastle-artillery-volunteers-sword-3

An original and scarce named British 19th Century Newcastle Artillery Volunteers Officer’s Sword

This sword was carried by an officer in the 1st Battalion of the Newcastle Volunteer Artillery regiment.  This regiment was raised in mid-19th Century and although there is little information around, it is thought that they manned coastal artillery pieces.  This sword is actually named on the blade to “Cuthbert J Love” or Lovett – would be worth some further research.  All I can find on the web is this.  Is regimentally named to the blade and there are also motifs of a cannon, lightning bolts, royal crown and cypher.

Condition of the Sword

Blade with some age wear.

Specifications of the Sword

Blade length is 32 inches (38 inches overall).
