Superbly detailed C.1700's Ivory Horsehead Military Short Sword. A terrific and possibly unique example of an early 1700's short sword with well detailed carved ivory horsehead pommel. Is difficult to accurately place this piece in geographical terms but I have seen these horsehead pommels on both English and American swords of the period and also Far Eastern daggers of the Eighteenth Century, although I am tending to think that this is European in origin.
Swords and Blades of the American Revolution
Have included some shots from George Neumann's Swords and Blades of the American Revolution to show that the use of a horsehead pommel in European swords was quite popular at this time. The blade is plain and curved with a clip point. In good condition for its great age - some minor loss of ivory near base of grip. Blade length is 24 inches (28 inches overall).
