Unusual US Civil War period Non-Regulation Officer’s Sword.  This is an unusual example of a US Civil War or post-war period officer’s sword with helmet and eagle pommel, ribbed silver washed grip and US eagle crossguard.  The blade is plain and unmarked.  The sword comes complete with its original black painted and brass mounted scabbard.

Retains original sword hanging straps

The sword also retains its original intricate brass hanging straps.  Am assuming that this is a non-regulation piece as I cannot find a similar example in any reference sources.  In good overall condition with some service wear to the hilt and staining to the blade.  Blade length is 28 inches (35 inches overall).

An original French C.1900 Medical Officer’s Dress Sword

This sword was carried by medical officers in the French army during the late-19th and early 20th Century.  With victory laurel and entwined snake motif to the forward shell guard.  The blade is double-fullered and plain.  It comes complete with its original steel scabbard.

Condition of the Sword

In good overall condition – brass twistwire to grip has been rebound.

With typical nickel-plated three-bar hilt and fishskin and silver twistwire to the hilt.  Blade is etched with Royal Artillery cannon and lightning bolts.  Sword comes complete with original leather field service scabbard and frog.

An original British 1796 Pattern Heavy Cavalry Trooper’s Sword – 3rd Dragoon Guards

A scarce example of a British Napoleonic heavy cavalry trooper’s sword marked to the 3rd Dragoon Guards, a regiment that saw action in the Peninsula at Talavera, Albuhera and Vittoria.  The sword comprises the typical and distinctive disc hilt with langets removed according to regulations.  The knuckle bow is engraved with the designation – 3D and the troop number (indecipherable) and then individual trooper number – 22.  The grip is mainly ribbed wood (originally leather wrapped).  The blade is inspector stamped and spear- pointed.  To read more about the history of this regiment please click here.

A super rare and fine British C.1832 2nd Lifeguards Officer’s Dress Sword

Terrific and rarely encountered British 2nd Lifeguards Officer’s dress sword with elaborately decorated brass hilt and scrolled hilt bars.  Owner’s name etched to top of the guard.  The blade is maker marked to Andrews of Pall Mall, London.  The blade also has the regimental designation and flaming grenade motif repeated to both sides.  Heavily influenced by contemporary French military swords, these swords were only carried by officers of this elite British Army regiment and very few were ever produced with a very small number surviving – this is one of the rarest British regulation military swords that a collector could ever encounter.

Condition of the Sword

In good overall condition.  Some small loss of fishskin to grip near ferrule and also strands of original twistwire.  Detached outer hilt bar – just needs pushing back in.

A scarce and original British 1853 Pattern Socket Bayonet

This is a 1st model British 1853 Pattern Socket Bayonet manufactured to fit the Enfield Rifle Musket later Snider breech loading conversion.  With a triangular blade and complete with the early scabbard that features a separate locket and belt hook.  Military issue marks to socket – WD (War Department) impressed to scabbard.

English Civil War 17th Century Military Sword

An original English military sword with typical large double-shell hilt and bilobate knucklebow.  Reverse of shell guard with deeply incised decoration.  The blade has a German Solingen running wolf mark to both sides of the blade.  Wooden grip.  This type of sword was carried throughout the English Civil War and by both the Parliamentary and Royalist forces – it was also carried until the end of the 17th Century.

Hilt in good condition and with commensurate wear – good age patina.  Blade with more wear

A fine and scarce Antique Penknife – George Wolstenholm – Sheffield.  Made by the famous Sheffield knife-maker.  With ivorine(?) slab grips and maker-marked to both blades with IXL to one blade.  During the 19th Century, Sheffield, England was the centre of blade making and produced huge quantities of knives edged cutlery that was sold throughout the world.  This would have been made in one of the numerous knife and blade making workshops of the city.
