A very good example of a English C.1770 Naval Officer's Hanger Sword. This is the type of short hanger popular with English naval officers at the end of the 18th Century and comprises a staghorn grip, brass pommel and brass slotted hilt.
Distinctive slotted hilt
The slotted hilt was a common sword hilt style at this time and you also see them on English infantry swords of the period. The blade is typically plain and double-edged. Condition of the sword is excellent - is in remarkable condition for its great age. Blade length is 22 inches (27 inches overall).
