Rare and Unusual c.1760 French or Spanish Infantry Hanger
Of a type carried by European infantry during the mid-late 18th Century. For similar examples please see Swords and Blades of the American Revolution by Neumann, pages 79-81. With brass hilt and engraved crown and letter R to top of forward guard. Also reversed letter A to side. Blade has been engraved with the motto No me Saques Sin Razon; No me Enbaines sin Honor – Draw me not Without Reason, Sheath Me not Without Honour – this was a common motto on swords of the period.
Condition of the Sword
Blade with good, dark age patina. A rare piece.
