Model 1927 Vickers Irish Army Military Helmet

Irish Army Model 1927 Vickers Military Helmet

This is a scarce and rarely encountered 1920’s Irish Army military helmet.  The helmet is based on the WW1 German military helmet but was actually made in Northern Ireland by the British firm of Vickers.  They were of rather poor construction when compared to the German helmets and suffered from a much thinner gauge of metal.  Because of this most existing helmets are dented in some way.  They were originally painted olive green but repainted white for civil defence use during WW2.  This is the finish that remains on this helmet.  Most of these helmets were destroyed in the 1970’s when they were used as hard core during the construction of an Irish Army barracks.  Complete with its original liner.  Am currently selling another similar example.

Condition of the Helmet

In worn condition – looks to have been in storage for a long time.
