19th Century Javanese Silver-Mounted Wedung Knife
A rare and good quality 19th Century Javanese Silver-Mounted Wedung Knife. It was worn in the royal courts of Central Java and has a distinctive cleaver shape. The name Wedung probably originates from an area in the sub-district of Demak, North of Java. This example has a finely decorated solid silver pommel and ferrule. The grip appears to be made from horn.
Condition of the Wedung Knife
In excellent condition with appropriate age toning to the blade.
Specifications of the Wedung Knife
Blade length is 9.5 inches (15 inches overall).
