A fine quality Late-19th Century Cup-hilt Decorated Fencing Foil
This is a fine late-19th Century cup-hilt decorated fencing foil. With cut steel decoration to the hilt. The grip is covered in fishskin and twistwire and both the pommel and cup-hilt have engraved decoration. The blade is also decorated for part of its length. It is likely that from the style of the foil it was probably manufactured in either France, Spain or Italy. Many fencing foils are not of the highest quality and some are more decorative than practical. This is a particularly good example.
Condition of the Fencing Foil
In fine condition with a dark age patina to the hilt and blade – tip of blade missing.
Specifications of the Fencing Foil
Blade length is 35 inches (43 inches overall).
