Scottish 1750-1800 Highland Infantry Officer's Basket-hilted Broadsword
A rare and complete Scottish 1750-1800 Highland Infantry Officer's Basket-hilted Broadsword with fine, pierced iron basket hilt of Highland form. With pierced hearts and roundels to the hilt. Wooden grip and remains of tassels and red velvet buckskin liner. The blade is engraved with name of Andrea Ferara and a running wolf mark to each side. This was a common mark on German-made sword blades exported to Scotland during the 18th Century. This sword is likely to have started life as a mid-18th Century Jacobite broadsword and was adapted later for use by a Scottish Highland infantry officer in the service of the British Army. The sword comes complete with an iron and leather mounted scabbard.
Condition of the Sword
