A very early example of a 19th Century Finnish Pukko Knife and Scabbard. These distinctive knives are associated with Finland and other parts of Sandinavia and are still manufactured in these areas. They come in a variety of hilt styles and this knife is distinguished by the deep carving of scrolling foliage to the birchwood hilt. The blade is double-edged and plain.
Pukko carving very important
In Finland and northern Scandinavia, the carving of the Pukko's hilt is very important and great pride is taken during this process. Over generations, this knife has become intimately tied to Nordic culture. The knife comes complete with its original leather scabbard. Condition of the knife is good for its age - some wear to the blade. A rare early find. Blade length is 2.75 inches (6 inches overall).
