Superbly detailed C.1700’s Ivory Horsehead Military Short Sword.  A terrific and possibly unique example of an early 1700’s short sword with well detailed carved ivory horsehead pommel.  Is difficult to accurately place this piece in geographical terms but I have seen these horsehead pommels on both English and American swords of the period and also Far Eastern daggers of the Eighteenth Century, although I am tending to think that this is European in origin.

Swords and Blades of the American Revolution

Have included some shots from George Neumann’s Swords and Blades of the American Revolution to show that the use of a horsehead pommel in European swords was quite popular at this time.  The blade is plain and curved with a clip point.  In good condition for its great age – some minor loss of ivory near base of grip.  Blade length is 24 inches (28 inches overall).

A good example of an Italian 19th Century House of Savoy Officer’s Smallsword

The smallsword is of a type carried by officer’s in the service of the House of Savoy that became in the 19th Century, the Kingdom of Italy and ruled until the end of WW2.  The sword comprised a gult brass hilt in the neo-classical style with a human-form pommel and royal family eagle to the shell guard.  The slab grips are made from mother-of-pearl. The hilt quillon takes the form of a lionshead.  The blade is decorated with blue and gilt foliate patterns.  No scabbard.

Condition of the Smallsword

In excellent condition throughout – just about all blue and gilt remaining to the blade.

Blade length is 31 inches (36 inches overall).

An original Mexican Spanish 19th Century Espada Ancha Short Sword

These swords were locally produced in the Spanish colonies, including Mexico and South America.  They take many forms but this example is quite typical of the genre.  It comprises a tubular grip made up of a ribbed grip and iron pommel and ferrule.  The blade is hand forged, plain and slightly curved.

Condition of the Sword

In good condition with some wear to the blade commensurate with its age.

Blade length is 22 inches (27 inches overall).

A rare and fine example of a French Napoleonic Model XI Heavy Cavalry Trooper’s Sword

These swords are becoming extremely difficult to find nowadays and especially this model with the earlier scabbard.  With large four-bar brass hilt and leather and brass twistwire to the grip.  Stamped with issue marks to the knucklebow.  Fullered blade with spear point.  Complete with heavy iron scabbard that has an impressed mark to the top of throat – cannot make out but assume it is a maker’s mark.  A good example at a fair price – these swords are currently being sold for far in excess of this price and with the anniversary of Waterloo not too far away, prices will naturally rocket.

Condition of the Sword

In good overall condition – twistwire a little loose to grip.  Blade with fine smooth age patina.

A rarely encountered Ottoman Turkish WW1 Decorated Brass Shell Case

Original and super rare WW1 Ottoman Turkish decorated shell case.  With engraved Turkish script to the shell case and Ottoman crescent moon motif and extensive decoration to the rest of the shell case. Shell appears to be French so would guess that this was a captured piece.  Never seen one before – very unusual – find another one!
