Unique and exceptionally rare Imperial Japanese Army Flag and Chrysanthemum Parade Pole

Pole is constructed from metal and features a gold metal chrysanthemum top to the pole and a black painted, ribbed pole. Is interesting because the pole can be unscrewed – assumed that it was for ease of transportation.  I have never see one of these before and I doubt that many (if any) have survived. A superb piece for the collector of Imperial Japanese memorabilia.

Condition of the Flag and Pole

Pole is in excellent condition with no dents or dings to the top of the pole and retaining all original colour.  Flag is made from silk and is in pretty good condition considering its fragility – some small holes and tears – see pics.

With detailed, brass mounted hilt and fishskin and silver twistwire to the grip. Blade with extensive etching, including Prussian eagle, martial trophies, lances and cannons. Complete with original scabbard.

A very interesting French Lorraine 19th Century Hunting Sword.  The sword bears a double cross and two circles etched into the hilt guard and it is likely that it signifies a French Lorraine origin and this is the symbol of that region. The hilt has up and down-turned, flared quillons.

Another intriguing fact is that the hilt is made from bronze which is highly unusual. This hunting sword has a plain blade and comes complete with its original brass-mounted scabbard.  In good overall condition – blade with some wear – period scabbard repair near chape.  Blade length is 23.5 inches (29 inches overall).

British named 1912 Pattern Cavalry Officer’s Sword by Wilkinson

This was the sword of Captain, later Major,  A G Miller of the 11th Hussars (Prince Albert’s Own). Limited research to date throws up that he was a renowned military figure during the early desert battles of WW2 and was a tank commander during the very first tank vs tank battle against the Italian Army in June 1940, at Ghirba – see: https://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t. Blade with owner’s initials and Wilkinson serial number.  Complete with original leather field service scabbard. This sword is worthy of further research as I guess that the officer probably had an interesting war.

Scarce British 1888 Pattern Lee Metford Volunteer Bayonet

Dated to 1893 and with various inspector’s marks to the blade forte. Wooden grips are stamped to each side with the manufacturer Greener and Co, Birmingham – this is rarely seen. Clean blade and complete with scarce scabbard that features a leather tip rather than the standard metal chape. also comes with leather frog.

Blade is clean with minor knocks to the wooden grip.

Extremely rare c.1800 German Infantry Officer’s Sword

In terrific condition and with French style neo-classical helmet pommel and boat shell guard. All original brass twistwire to the grip. Blade is engraved with military motifs and the motto – GOTT SEGNE DIE STADE UND DEN SENAT. There is also an engraved castle/fortress to the blade. It is likely that this was carried by an officer in one of the German states.

Blade condition is very good and there is no pitting or damage. A fine piece and seldom seen in the market.

Rare antique Chinese c.1850 Jian Officer Sword

A fine and genuine Imperial Chinese 19th Century Officer’s Jian Sword. With an attractive, decorated bronze hilt and scabbard mounts. With a polished horn slab grip. Green stained fishskin covered scabbard and well wrought blade. This is a rare and original sword and especially so as most in the current market are fakes coming out of China.

North Indian c.1800 Pulouar Fighting Sword

A complete and original example of a North Indian Pulouar fighting sword.  With a slender, silvered hilt and heavy duty and multi-fullered fighting blade.  The Pulouar sword is a very distinctive Indian fighting weapon and is very much distinguished by its elegant, downward-pointing quillons.  The sheer weight of this curved blade would have been extremely devastating  when used either on horseback or just swinging at an opponent in a slashing motion.  It comes complete with its original leather and steel mounted scabbard – this is quite rare and most examples encountered tend to be without their scabbard or have had replacements made much later in their lives.  It is interesting to note that there appears to be a loose object stuck in the hollow pommel – there is a theory that warriors who used this type of sword would have a small jewel placed inside during its manufacture so that if caught in enemy territory, they could use the jewel as a form of currency – can’t say what is in the pommel but there is definitely something there!
