French WW1 Model 1874 Bayonet Cut-Down Trench Knife

french-ww1-bayonet-knife-2

Scarce French WW1 Model 1874 Bayonet Cut-Down Trench Knife.  An original WW1 French Army trench fighting knife made from a cut-down French Model 1874 Epee Bayonet.  Made from a standard regulation issue Model 1874 Epee Bayonet – these bayonets were produced in vast quantities and carried right through from the end of the 19th Century and even during the First World War.

With stiletto-type blade

These cut-down Model 1874’s were very popular during the First World War because the stiletto-type blade made an excellent stabbing weapon for close combat fighting in the trenches.  The blade has been crudely ground towards the end of the blade.  Blade length is 10 inches (14.5 inches overall).
