Late-18th/early 19th Century European Napoleonic Military Short Sword

napoleonic-brass-short-sword-2

A scarce late-18th/early 19th Century European Napoleonic Military Short Sword.  This is an interesting infantry short sword from the period of the Napoleonic Wars.  Have not been able to positively identify it to any particular country but expect it to be European in origin.   I remember acquiring a similar sword many years ago that had Scandinavian markings to the blade – am pretty sure that it is Northern European.  This type of short sword could also have been issued by a Pioneer or Artilleryman as these leaf-shaped bladed short swords tended to be carried by this branch of military service.

Distinctive ribbed brass grip and plain blade

It comprises a distinctive ribbed brass grip and very wide, plain blade with a long, single fuller.  No scabbard.  Am also selling another identical example.  Wear to the blade commensurate with its age.  Blade length is 20 inches (25 inches overall).
