C.1750 French Continental Smallsword

french-european-1750-smallsword-2

A very fine c.1750 French Continental Smallsword

This is a fine and unusual c.1750 French  Continental steel-hilted smallsword from the Mid-18th Century and comprises a finely etched blade with floral, military and Turk's head motifs to half of its length.  The blade is flat-backed with a wide forte and graduated towards the end.  This type of smallsword would have been carried by both a military officer and civilian and was popular during the first half of the 18th Century.  It is in excellent condition for its age.  The scabbard is missing but it is extremely rare to find any smallswords from this period with their original scabbards due to the relatively flimsy nature of their construction.  With original brass museum/collection tag attached to the hilt.

Condition of the Sword

In very fine condition with an extremely clean blade.

Specifications of the Sword

Blade length is 30.5 inches (36 inches overall).
