Original German WW1 Stormtrooper Propaganda Poster

german-ww1-propaganda-poster-1

A terrific and rarely encountered original German WW1 Stormtrooper Propaganda Poster.   The poster is quite famous and iconic within German war art and is known as the Help us Win the War poster.  It was meant to publicize the sixth German war loan of the German Empire in the third year (spring 1917) of the First World War and was created by Fritz Erler, a Munich artist. The poster is considered the one of the best first official war propaganda posters of the German Empire during the First World War.  Erler was chosen to produce this poster after an official competition.  It comprises a German stormtrooper on the battlefield and is painted very much in the Expressionist style in a woodut manner.  The depiction of his gas mask, steel helmet and stick grenades is very much highlighting the industrialisation of modern warfare.  There is a German language article about this poster on the net – please go HERE for more information.  This is an original poster from the period and not a reproduction and consequently a scarce piece of Imperial German ephemera.  It is printed on quite coarse paper and was probably an economy measure.  Condition is good for its age with some very minor gouges and stains towards the bottom of the poster.  It is held within a heavy wood frame (no glass) – have not attempted to take it out so will ship complete with frame – is glued to the back board so will not roll up. Height is 30 inches x 20 inches width..
