Polish Hungarian 18th Century Koncerz Cavalry Sword

This is an extremely rare Polish Hungarian 18th Century Koncerz Cavalry Sword that would have been carried by troopers in the first half of the eighteenth century.  This example is of typical form and comprises a plain stirrup hilt with rounded pommel.  The grip is covered in leather and bound with brass twistwire.  The distinctive feature of these swords is the very narrow and long blade that was used as a kind of thrusting short lance or spear.  This example has had the blade cut down and so lost part of its length but would originally have been considerably longer.  Because of the very narrow blade it is probably inevitable that it would be prone to breakages and consequently, few will have ever survived and the only existing examples appear to be in Eastern European military museums.

Condition of the Sword

In good overall condition with appropriate wear to both the hilt and blade – as mentioned before – part of the blade length has been lost.

Specifications of the Sword

Blade length is 28 inches (33 inches overall).
