C.1800’s French Napoleonic Junior Naval Officer’s Dirk

napoleonic-naval-dirk-3

A very fine C.1800’s French Napoleonic Junior Naval Officer’s Dirk.  This would most likely have been carried by a young officer of equivalent midshipman grade as in the Royal Navy and is typical of the small dirks that you find were carried by officers from both Britain and France during the Napoleonic Wars and for a few years afterwards.  The dirk comprises a well carved and detailed ebony grip with brass pommel and crossguard.  The blade is of lenticular form and plain.  The dirk comes complete with its original leather and brass mounted scabbard.  Condition of the dirk is very good and there is only minor age wear to the blade.  Blade length is 4.75 inches (8.5 inches overall).
