British 1856 Pattern Unmarked Yataghan Sword Bayonet

british-1856-pattern-yataghan-bayonet-3

A rare British 1856 Pattern Unmarked Yataghan Sword Bayonet

These British and German made sword bayonets were made for the British Model 1853 Enfield Rifle and were carried by British volunteer units and also exported in quantities to both sides in the American Civil War.  This is a typical export example as it is unmarked and with no military issue stamps to the blade.  The only marking to the bayonet is the number 19 on top of the pommel.  Chequered leather grips still quite crisp.  The bayonet also comes complete with its original and rarely found leather sword frog.

Condition of the Bayonet

In good overall condition with a clean blade and dark age patina to the metal fittings.

Specifications of the Bayonet

Blade length is 23 inches (28 inches overall).

British 19th Century Newcastle Artillery Volunteers Officer’s Sword

newcastle-artillery-volunteers-sword-3

An original and scarce named British 19th Century Newcastle Artillery Volunteers Officer’s Sword

This sword was carried by an officer in the 1st Battalion of the Newcastle Volunteer Artillery regiment.  This regiment was raised in mid-19th Century and although there is little information around, it is thought that they manned coastal artillery pieces.  This sword is actually named on the blade to “Cuthbert J Love” or Lovett – would be worth some further research.  All I can find on the web is this.  Is regimentally named to the blade and there are also motifs of a cannon, lightning bolts, royal crown and cypher.

Condition of the Sword

Blade with some age wear.

Specifications of the Sword

Blade length is 32 inches (38 inches overall).

French C.1900 Senior Naval Officer’s Dress Sword

french-senior-naval-officers-sword-3

A superb and decorative French C.1900 Senior Naval Officer’s Dress Sword

This is a rarely found example of a very senior (admiral grade) French naval officer’s dress sword.  It is based on the Model 1837 French naval officer’s sword but differs in that both the hilt and scabbard are highly decorated with gilt brass motifs.  The ribbed grip is made from horn and the hilt also retains its original dress sword knot.  The blade is plain and with a nickel plated finish. Is maker marked near the blade forte.  The sword comes complete with a fantastic leather and gilt brass scabbard.  Probably a unique piece.

Condition of the Sword

In good overall condition – scabbard leather worn/restored in places – some wear to blade.

Specifications of the Sword

Blade length is 26.5 inches (32 inches overall).

English/European 15th Century Rondel Type Dagger

15th-century-dagger-2

A very scarce and early English/European 15th Century Rondel Type Dagger

This is a seldom seen late-Medieval dagger with a pronounced downward crossguard and thick, reinforced blade that would  have been very effective when piercing plate, mail and armour.  It also has a sectioned and flattened pommel.  The grip is likely to have been wooden and rotted away.  Daggers of this period are quite rare and especially in this complete condition.

Condition of the Dagger

In typical excavated(?) condition – all metal has been stabilised with no rust.

Specifications of the Dagger

Blade length is 9 inches 13.5 inches overall).

Condition of the Broadsword

In good overall condition for its great age – wear to hilt and blade – break to one of the hilt bars.

C.1800’s Scottish Highland Fleshing Knife

scottish-fleshing-knife-2

A rare C.1800’s Scottish Highland Fleshing Knife.  These distinctive knives were used to remove the flesh from animals and were an important element in a hunter’s kit. It is probable that it would have been carried alongside a hunting sword or large dagger.   This example appears to have great age and was purchased at auction in the Scottish Highlands and is more than likely to come from that region.

With marine ivory grip and leaf-shaped blade

The knife comprises a chequered marine ivory grip and leaf-shaped blade.  In worn, used condition as it should be – they had a hard working life.  Blade length is 3 inches (6.5 inches overall).

British WW2 V-Force Commando Special Forces Cap Badge

A very scarce British WW2 V-Force Commando Special Forces Cap Badge

Here is a very rare WW2 V-Force cap badge.  The V Force was a guerilla organisation that was set up in 1942 to deal with a likely invasion of India by the Japanese.  In 1942 the Japanese had driven the British Army out of Burma and the establishment of V Force was meant to operate as a sabotage and intelligence unit.  It’s area commanders and officers were rarely regular army officers, they were more likely to be made up of men who had expert knowledge of the language and people of the area. Quite often they were civil servants and police officers, many were tea plantation workers. Badge in excellent condition.
