A very large and impressive 19th Century Russian/Caucasian Kindjal Dagger

This is an excellent example and of high quality.  With a large slab horn grip of two parts, secured with decorated silver rivets.  Backstrap with gilt decoration.  Very wide, single-fullered blade inlaid with solid gold decoration.

In good overall condition with only minor age fractures to horn grips.  Blade with light staining.

An early and large example of an early 1800’s fighting knife with a fine turned ivory grip and wide blade.  Blade with pronounced ridge to top edge.  Complete with wooden scabbard and iron mounts – top mount retaining traces of the original solid gold inlay.

Original and fine Turkish Ottoman 19th Century Kilij Shamshir Sword

A good example of a 19th Century Kilij-type sword with an excellent and substantial fighting blade.  The hilt comprises a green horn slab grip secured by iron pins and a decorated brass backstrap and cast brass crossguard featuring a crescent moon and star motif seen on many Turkish swords of the period.  The blade has a deeply etched panel with script and to the reverse, stamped armourer’s marks.  Blade is double-fullered and of superior quality.

Interesting dated 1801 Spanish Rapier.  Of typical Spanish styling, with double-shell guard, D-guard knucklebow and teardrop quillon.  Maker marked with heavily impressed stamp to tang below quillon block.  Blade is engraved with the date 1801 and TOLEDO to spine.  Original wooden grip.

Super rare c.1750 German Brandenburg-Ansbach NCO’s Spontoon

This is a very rare NCO’s military spontoon from a little known and now defunct German state of Brandenburg-Ansbach that only existed until 1806 when it was sold to Prussia by its last ruler, Charles Alexander, Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach.  For more information about him go to:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Alexander,_Margrave_of_Brandenburg-Ansbach.  The spontoon has a double-edged blade that swells at the tip and is re-inforced.  It is engraved with an eagle to one side and on the reverse is an engraved royal cypher of “A” (Alexander) surrounded by a victory wreath.  The spontoon has a heavy wooden haft.

A very scarce and early English c. 1680 Smallsword

A good example of an early English 17th Century Smallsword with transitional features.  The iron hilt has a kidney-shaped guard with an engraved knucklebow and ovoid pommel.  The blade is unusual in that it has a narrow, double fuller to the spine.  Blade is engraved with scrolling decoration to both sides.

Scarce British 1885 Pattern Cavalry Trooper’s Sword to the Lothian and Borders Horse Regiment

A good example of a British Victorian cavalry trooper’s sword carried by a soldier in a Scottish Yeomanry cavalry regiment.  The sword is of standard regulation 1885 Pattern, with a chequered leather grip and bowl guard, featuring a cut-out Maltese Cross – this was a very distinctive feature of this pattern of sword and was never repeated on any other regulation British swords.  It looks like the sword was also used for parade purposes as it was nickel plated at some stage. The blade forte is stamped with numerous military issue marks and dates and would have had a long service life as was the case with many of these swords. This sword was made by the German sword maker, Weyersberg Kirschbaum and Co., who supplied the British Army at this time because of the inability of British sword makers to provide enough swords and at the right price.   Is regimentally marked to the Lothian and Borders Horse to the top of the scabbard.  To find out more about the history of this regiment please go to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lothian_and_Border_Horse.

A c.1800’s British regulation pattern infantry officer’s sword with typical lionshead and slotted hilt.  The royal cypher and crown is also placed with the knucklebow.  All original leather and brass twistwire to the grip.  Blade retains some original gilding to the etching that includes royal crown cypher, coat of arms and foliage.  No scabbard.

Excellent Chinese 19th Century Jian Sword

A very good example of a Chinese Officer’s Jian sword with typical hilt and scabbard styling.  Hilt has a ribbed, wooden grip and decorated brass mounts.  The blade is plain with a spear point.  The scabbard is of polished wood with brass mounts.  These swords were particularly popular during the mid-19th Century and I would say that this probably dates from this period.

Original English c.1640 Rapier Sword

With typical period hilt comprising a single knucklebow attached by a screw to the large, onion-shaped pommel. Knucklebow then forms downwards into three hilt guards attached to the pierced shell guard. To the other side is a pronounced foward guard. Wooden grip and multi-fullered blade.

Condition is worn overall commensurate with its age but there have been no repairs to the hilt bars of guards.

Superb condition British Victorian Honourable Artillery Officer’s Dress Sword

With typical brass hilt with white metal flaming grenade inset badge. All original fishskin and brass twistwire to the grip. The Honourable Artillery Company is the oldest regiment in the British Army and was formed in 1537 during the reign of King Henry VIII.  It is made up of volunteers and has served in all the major conflicts that has involved the British Army over a number of centuries.

Excellent British or European 19th Century Rapier Sword

This 19th Century Rapier Sword is of very good quality and well made, with a large hilt comprising a large, faceted forward guard and downswept quillons. Blade of diamond-sectioned form.  This type of sword was produced in the 19th Century and followed the Medieval Revival period that saw numbers of swords from the Medieval and Renaissance copied and made for display, particularly in large, baronial houses.  The quality of these swords varies widely but this is a particularly fine example and still has good weight and balance.

These are normally encountered with a brass hilt but this example has an iron hilt, indicating that it is was carried by an NCO in a Rifle regiment. Made by Robert Mole and dated to 1891. Blade with fine maker etching to forte.

With brass, Gothic hilt and etched blade by Thurkle – is quite unusual as most NCO sword would have had a plain blade. Blade forte with ISD (India Stores Department) markings. The hilt is marked M.O.D. (Madras Ordnance Department).

In terrific condition and with all original gilt finish remaining to the hilt and scabbard mounts. Hilt with decorative thistle motifs to the hilt that are continued to the scabbard mounts. Blade is decorated with martial stands of trophies, victory wreath and scrolling foliage. Retaining all original frost etching and polish. Black leather to the scabbard is still hard and stiff. A rare and attractive piece.  Also complete with its original bullion sword knot.
