Dutch East Indies WW2 Model 1910 HeiHo Klewang Cutlass

dutch-klewang-sword-3

A very good Dutch East Indies WW2 Model 1910 HeiHo Klewang Cutlass.  This is different to the much more common Model 1911 Klewang Cutlass that was made in the Netherlands up until the outbreak of WW2 when the country was occupied by Germany and no more Model 1911 cutlasses were manufactured. These cutlasses were made in Indonesia and issued to the HeiHo (Auxillary) Corps before the Japanese invasion.

Dutch HeiHo Cutlass with blued steel blade

This example differs slightly in having had the bowl guard removed.  The cutlass comprises a blued steel and fullered blade with bakelite grips secured by three brass rivets. Complete with original leather and brass mounted scabbard.  In excellent shape and with all blueing remaining to the blade.  Blade length is 17.5 inches (22 inches overall).  In excellent shape and with all blueing remaining to the blade.  Blade length is 17.5 inches (22 inches overall).

Irish Army Model 1927 Vickers Steel Helmet

irish-vickers-helmet-1

Irish Army Model 1927 Vickers Steel Helmet

This is an extremely rare Irish Army Model 1927 Vickers Steel Helmet issued to the newly created Irish Free State Army of the 1920’s.  This helmet was based on the German Model 1916 Steel Helmet and it is extremely unusual in that the Republic gave the contract to the Vickers Company of Northern Ireland – a part of the United Kingdom and a former enemy.  Only 10,021 helmets were produced and most were subsequently crushed by the Irish Army when constructing new barracks in the 1970’s.  A very informative article on the history of the helmet can be found at https://www.frontiernet.net/~masullivan/vickers/Irish_Helmet.htm.  This example retains its orignal liner and chinstrap and is in excellent shape.   It is impressed to the inside to the helmet with the Vickers maker’s mark, production number and date of 1927.  The helmet retains the original exterior and interior dark green paint finish that is rarely seen – most helmets were painted white and issued to civil defence authorities WW2 and that is how most are found today.  The helmet has two brass lugs to the front where a state badge would have been affixed.  These are even rarer to find than the helmets but if you can locate an original example, it would make this helmet a fine and highly collectable piece and increase its value considerably.

Condition of the Helmet

In good overall condition.  NOTE:  Ignore the white patches to photos – caused by the camera – paint finish is even over the helmet.

Specifications of the Helmet

Looks to be a medium-large size.
